Disability Services & Extend Program

 

 Extend is a small community based day program where young adults with disabilities can extend themselves through participation in a varied range of activities and events.

Participants are encouraged to access many of the existing Community House programs as well as a range of activities provided specifically for their interests and ability.

These will include:

Exercise classes
Craft Group
Computer Training
Riding for the Disabled
Swimming
Environmental Programs
Music / Drama
Literacy / Numeracy
Fitness & Sport
Bushwalking
Sailing at Lysterfield Lake
Cooking


Work Programs eg: lawn moving, garden maintenance, administration duties.

An individual program plan will be developed for each participant.

Extend operates 46 weeks of the year, from 9.00 am - 3.00 pm.
A maximum of 10 participants ensures each person is given every opportunity to extend their skills, experiences and friendships.

 

Additional activities suitable for people with disabilities include -

Introduction to Hospitality

Here is a opportunity to improve your photography and multimedia skills. Using cameras and iPads you will produce quality photographs and video recording and explore how to display them.

Day:  Thursday 

Time: 10.00 am - 1.00 pm

Fee: $80 per term

Adult Literacy

This is a 10 week program for people with low leteracy skills, focusing on developing their literacy and numeracy including the use of iPads and other aspects of digital literacy.

Day:  Friday

 

Time:  9am- 12.00noon

Extend Your Skills

Offering a range of workshops and activities, adults with a disability are encouraged to develop work and life skills, meet friends and have fun.

Activities come under four main topic areas:- 

 1. Looking After Yourself

 2. Cooking 

 3. Basic Computer skills

 4. Self Advocacy 

 

 Every Tuesday 10am-1.00 pm            

 

 Location: Belgrave South Community House,  Gilmore Court, Belgrave South.

 Cost: $50 per term.

  

Belgrave South Gardening Group

This is an all abilities group share a passion for nature and the outdoors and are happy to assist with the preservation of Belgrave South Recreation Reserve.  Learning will include weed identification and remaoval,  planting, propagation,native plant identification, bushland maintenance and protection etc.  Everyone welcome.

Day: Wednesdays 

Start: ongoing

Time: 9.30 am— 12.30 pm

Venue: Belgrave South Community House.

 

 Fitness ‘n’ Fun

This class is designed to suit active people with disabilities, exercises will include the use of fit balls, hand weights, exercise to music, fun and games.

 Introduction to Digital Literacy - Music Makes It Easy  

Develop the skills required to use an iPad through a music themed learning environment. Activities will include research, recording, storage, social media, email, use of apps etc. Sessions will include the use of iPads, singing, instruments and skills development.

Day: Wednesday
